From this YouTube trailer of Expelled, we can see that Expelled may not be about science and scientific reasoning after all:
When I was younger I used to believe in Creation and Evolution. But now I know the truth. I’m a Creationist now, that is a Young Earth Creationist. I’m majoring in Biology right now because I want to understand God’s wonderful creation in this life.
So what we have here is someone who used to “believe” that evolution happens. You know, evolution, that thing that requires you to get a flu shot every year because the viruses evo- change over time? Now he’s ironically becoming a biology major. Ironic in that evolution is the corner-stone of modern biology and it must be some form of “here, eat this herb” biology…
32″Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.
-Matthew 10:32-33don’t ignore this film if you’re afraid of what people will think of you. stand up for your beliefs.
I wanted to see this film because I thought it was scientific. What’s all this quoting from the New Testament of the Bible? I go to church (read: used to) to learn about that.
Awesome…and it makes sense.. if someone tells me that if they give an ant a couple of million years, it will turn into a human being.. they better have proof.. To question darwinism is basic common sense.. You cannot fool everybody all the time…
Firstly, ants don’t live that long. Even if they did, it’s highly doubtful they’re going to “turn into” anything or “change over time” as evolution states. Why is this? Because the changes are small and at a genetic level. Being pummeled with radiation is going to change a lot about the ant’s biology and make it a very weird creature, but it’s (probably) not going to grow, or change forms. Even if given a million years. Evolution works by inserting small genetic changes over a large period of times, a prime example being how modern small domesticated dogs have became smaller, look different, and make you their pack leader despite coming from wolves. Provably, that is. That seems like it alone would prove evolution, but some people just can’t be pleased.
I can’t wait to see this. I also want to read the scientific paper. God is making himself more apparent every day. I cannot wait until all see the Lord Jesus Christ coming from the clouds to rescue his faithfull!
Why would someone who would never set foot in a theater about “darwinism” ever be so eager to see a movie about intelligent design, just another theory? I mean, it’s just a theory, after all. (actually, it’s not.)
Boy, I’m glad this ID thing is getting people interested in science, but getting the religious right? Why’s it doing that? This is about science, not religion. Right?
this looks great, it addresses ignorance from both sides. I think it’s idiotic to blindly and completely believe in a 19th century scientists theory, we should constantly be asking questions. and seriously looking at ALL the possibilities. there is too much missing from darwinism to accept it as scientific fact.
Blindly? What about the fossil records, the genetics, the mountains and mountains of evidence for evolution? Why won’t you answer that question? Maybe they’re afraid of something. Also, what’s this scientific fact? I hear that both “darwinism” and the big bang are scientific facts but still theories. Something isn’t right here!
(PSA: for those not catching the sarcasm, theories explain facts. That is all.)
Finally Darwin’s Theory Will Be Debunked “Thank GOD”!!
150 years of evolution and one film will debunk it? Wow, must be one awesome film! But why thank God? Why all of these references to god? I really thought this was supposed to be strictly about science…
In the scientific community it is wrong to even say something points to intelligent design.
I have watched many scientific documentaries where the words ‘God’ were on the tip of their tongue when they baffled about things like how if the universe expanded .0000000000000001 faster no galaxies would have formed, and if it expanded .0000000000000001 slower it would have collapsed on itself by now.
They simply say it was a freak of nature. God is not a reasons, he is expelled.
The expansion of the universe has nothing to do with evolutionary theory. For that matter, your numbers are slightly off. If it would have happened differently (different speeds, noting here that the speed of light is now lower than it was after the big bang) things would just be… different. Animals, plants, and otherwise would still exist. The universe will still exist.
But again the references to god. I don’t get it. This is about SCIENCE DAMN IT! Keep your religion out of my completely valid and non-creationism related science!
I love Ben Stein and all those who believe in God ought to support this movie.
I’m getting sick and tired of all this god nonsense. There is no god. I’m an atheist. But that’s not a problem because this is science. We were just created by someone or something out there, but it doesn’t require god, does it?
Answer: yes. It does. We see all of these comments related to god because intelligent design is, again, creationism, and not science. Intelligent design itself states that life was too complex to have arisen by chance. That means our creator would have had to been created, and the creator of that creator been created, etc. etc. It’s an example of ad infinitum. It never ends unless there were a non-physical creator of everything. Who else is that but god? Exactly.
The falsifiability of ID is claimed to be able to be tested by putting living cells in controlled conditions and growing them for 10,000 generations to see if they ever grow a bacterial flagella motor. This experiment wouldn’t prove ID even if nothing happened: the only thing they could claim it would do would be to disprove evolution. Science works in a way that you can test everything.
If there’s a creator, we want to test it as well. Therefore, any non-testable “theories” aren’t even theories in scientific context. It’s creationism relabeled.
They know this.
But what they’ve probably not realized is those who think ID is science could be turned off by all the religious leanings, religious people involved, and lack of evidence beyond notions and instead end up as “darwinists”, or worse yet: atheists.
Well, the typical Creationist is taught that learning things that your preacher/parent/spiritual handler did not specifically tell you to learn is an extraordinarily dangerous and insidious sin. That, and the typical Creationist thinks that having a Bible in hand somehow grants them superior knowledge than people who actually took hundreds upon hundreds of hours out of their lives to actually learn about science and biology.
…
Also, scientists have learned that small dogs are small because they have a gene that apparently shuts off the genes that produce growth hormone if the dog does not increase its weight by about 20 lbs during puppyhood through adolescence.
I was mainly referring to small breeds of dogs, notably the Chihuahua. I was also referring to medium sized dogs that are better adapted for certain things, i.e. beagles.
Even if I was wrong on that bit of technical info, I’m still right in that it’s an evolved feature. The gene shut-off may not be evolved in itself, but how different breeds are better suited for different things certainly qualifies for evolution, even if it’s forced. (as is the case)
I base this mostly on knowledge of how farms breed both animals and plants with and without chemicals. 🙂
