On FSTDT, we have our own saying that we took from futurama. When a fundie explains evolution or the big bang wrong, as not a single one of them has gotten it right, we say that or a variation thereof. For instance: the big bang does not work that way!

Evolution explains something observed in nature: species are not fixed. Through different environments in nature, species adapt over time into completely new types of animal. Or just die out, but the ones we care about are the ones that adapted.

Anyway, evolution seems to be a pretty simple concept, yes? Well, groups like Answers in Gensis have been fighting it since like the 1980s and still don’t have a firm grasp on it.

A few days ago I linked to the video for Beware the Believers, thinking it could possibly be a viral video for Expelled. Our Newsflash of the day… it is. Michael Edmondson, owner of Float On Films, created Beware the Believers to promote expelled.

I created (and danced) the “Richard Dawkins: Beware The Believers” viral ad for “Expelled : No Intelligence Allowed” found here:

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=eaGgpGLxLQw&fmt=18

The viral ad received 200, 000 views on the web during the three weeks prior to the (Expelled) release. I also have a visual effects credit for the film Expelled.

I love this video, and if it’s propaganda for Expelled (as many have speculated over a period of many months), it’s no doubt a hundred times better than Expelled could have ever been.

The elite here is comprised of: Richard Dawkins, Eugenie Scott, Daniel Dennett, Charles Darwin, PZ Myers, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens.

My personal favorite character is Sam Harris, I think the grillz are funny. But Dennett is funny in anything like this, because he looks like Santa but most religious would tell you he embodies Satan instead. Also, when he comes out of nowhere and says “YEAH!”, I laughed hard. Of course, that particular “YEAH!” is seemingly taken from the Anthrax song I’m The Man. I could be wrong, though.

Rush Limbaugh is an anti-intellectual fat snob who deserves nothing less than the constant shun of every community he claims to be a part of as well as the intellectuals whom he despises so. He shows an incredible misunderstanding of science and basically everything else in reality.

In an article of his, he talks about the Higgs boson and completely distorts what the Higgs boson actually is. It’s not a particle to prove god. It’s something that exists in the insane field of quantum physics. The physics of how things work at a sub-atomic level. Quantum physics is largely theoretical, so we’re still trying to directly prove something that we know exists via mathematics.

But what is it?

Just like the Disco tute’s blind Wedge Document, a broader detailing of the Wedge Strategy, I’ve made up my own legal term: Now the Candle Burns at both Ends.

But what does it mean?

The term mutually assured destruction is one that I would reference. The reason why the US doesn’t destroy Russia or Russia the US is because they know that whoever made the move first would have started a war that ends in nuclear war. At least, this seems likely. Nuclear war means no more humans. Instead of one losing the battle, they both lose out. That’s the basic tenant of mutually assured destruction.

I’m a regular visitor to my good friend Ray Comfort’s blog. He’s a very smart guy who believes in young Earth Creationism and has actually said you can’t be a Christian if you are one for an extended period of time and still ‘believe’ in evolution.

OK, in his defense, I’m not sure whether or not he used the micro- vs. macro- evolution save. If the opportunity presents itself, I’m sure he did. After all, he knows viruses evolve and wants to use our medicine to extend his very valuable life, but doesn’t believe in that heathen part where humans evolved from monkeys.

God damn it man, I’m almost at nerves end reading this guy’s blog. Before someone decides to defend him, let me just say that I’m sure he’s a completely normal and cool guy if you know him, sinner or not. No, really. But for all intents and purposes, Ray Comfort is a douche like no other, with the possible exception of his partner in anti-crime, Kirk “Dumbass” Cameron.

Annoying title aside, there’s something that is about to make Louisiana go down the drain, quick. The dubiously titled Louisiana Science Education Act is about anything but science. I’m sure you wouldn’t have to dig too deep to find out that it’s endorsed by the Disco ‘tute and many other batshit insane Christian fundamentalist groups.

It’s another “Academic Freedom” front, which, as I’ve stated before, is not about Academic Freedom at all. Again, these policies that allow teachers to confront controversial issues are solely about making evolution seem like a fairytale and pimping their imaginary friend as the cause for everything. You don’t believe me?

This bill would allow:

  • Teaching of “holes” and so-called “gaps” in evolutionary theory which are really unresearched parts of evolutionary theory that will be tackled by scientists at some point in time. There are no “gaps” or “holes” in evolutionary theory.
  • Teaching that evolution is imperfect, and thus qualifies as a belief, similar to Christianity. Evolution, like any scientific theory, runs on data gathered through true research such as geology, archaeology, and genetics.
  • Teaching that evolution is controversial, and that there are really two sides, one side being creationism. There are not two sides on the scientific spectrum, as creationism, and furthermore, Intelligent Design, are not science. 99.9% of all scientists in related fields agree in full with evolution.

And much, much more nonsensical bullshit that the far right have become very successful in. The art of “Lying for Jesus.”

For everyone that doesn’t think this is a real threat, the reason you can survive tiberculosis, bacterial infections, the flu, even the fucking common cold, is due to knowledge gained by evolutionary biology put in motion by other fields of biology that rely on evolutionary knowledge. In other words, without evolution, you would probably be very sick or very dead.

Which is why this type of thought is not only the opposite of good science education, but downright dangerous, as I’ve outlined many, many times prior.

Even worse is that Gov. Bobby Jindal, possible Vice President candidate for John McCain, is a creationist, exoricst, anti-science, pro-creation buffoon who supports this stuff. I can’t see him denying it, so this bill or act looks as if it will make it into state legislation. I wish someone would step up and challenge it, but since it is fundamentally against the constitution, it will take one of two things:

  1. Someone picks on Creationism and creationists go on the offensive, believing that it would promote evolution, the big bang, and science over their imagination and ‘beliefs’. This would be the most pleasing part, due to the tables being turned on this dubious piece of legislation.
  2. We see another Kitzmiller vs. Dover case in the making when some idiot decides to bring creationism into the classroom in any form and forces it on the unwilling children, and then some smart Louisianian decides that enough is enough. This would be the most destructive; supporters of the act as well as creationists could then use it to substantiate the claims made in Expelled about “Big Science” silencing opponents to evolutionary theory. This, as you can imagine, would be bad.

That’s our special bullshit alert of the day, but it’s not over yet. One last thing…

  1. Kirk Cameron (Lying for Jesus: Kirk Cameron Edition)
  2. Dr. Jason Lisle (Reading Answers in Genesis: Probably easier when high.)
  3. Lee Strobel (Lee Strobel: Ex-Atheist or just ignorant?)
  4. Ray Comfort (Banana: Proof of creationism., Ray Comfort has a blog)
  5. Rhonda Storms (Fuck Rhonda Storms)
  6. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal

Newest Creationist Failure on our list.
