A few days ago I linked to the video for Beware the Believers, thinking it could possibly be a viral video for Expelled. Our Newsflash of the day… it is. Michael Edmondson, owner of Float On Films, created Beware the Believers to promote expelled.
I created (and danced) the “Richard Dawkins: Beware The Believers” viral ad for “Expelled : No Intelligence Allowed” found here:
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=eaGgpGLxLQw&fmt=18
The viral ad received 200, 000 views on the web during the three weeks prior to the (Expelled) release. I also have a visual effects credit for the film Expelled.
Since Beware the Believers contained an all-star atheist cast (Dawkins, Myers, Scott, Hitchens, Harris, Dennett) it was immediately popular among the atheist community. While a funny video that I quite enjoy (and will always enjoy, probably), it’s a resounding example of a creationist failure. You know the drill, don’t you?
- Kirk Cameron (Lying for Jesus: Kirk Cameron Edition)
- Dr. Jason Lisle (Reading Answers in Genesis: Probably easier when high.)
- Lee Strobel (Lee Strobel: Ex-Atheist or just ignorant?)
- Ray Comfort (Banana: Proof of creationism., Ray Comfort has a blog, Ray Comfort: What the fuck, man?)
- Rhonda Storms (Fuck Rhonda Storms)
- Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (DO SOMETHING IN LOUISIANA! QUICK!, Now the Candle Burns at both Ends)
- Rush Limbaugh (Rush Limbaugh)
- Bill Donohue (It Gets Me!, It Gets Me! (Part II))
- Michael Edmondson

It’s not clear to me that the creator of that video is entirely sympathetic to the Expelled cause. A while back on the original video page at YouTube, the creator admitted that much of the creative work was his own. (or something to that effect) I think I actually exchanged some comments with him, though I can’t remember for sure.
The fact that atheists find it so amusing and, for the most part, accurate seems to indicate that it wasn’t designed to be insulting to atheists or promote intelligent design to the degree it was likely commissioned to do.
For this reason, I would hesitate to lump the creator of that video in with the Expelled nutjobs.
He also has credits in Expelled. Whether he meant it the way it turned out or not, he still failed at the task given.
Expelled was originally going to put his clip in the film, but then they changed their plans and told him to make a pro-expelled viral video. Micheal said that in a sense, the video was making fun of atheists, and in another sense it made fun of what the creationists believe of the atheists. He also called poe’s law on ben stein, which I found funny.
I called Poe’s Law on Ben Stein long ago whether he really is or not. I just don’t see how someone could be so genius and so incredibly stupid at the same time… But that’s my bias…
Two friends also called Poe’s Law on him. One an Atheist, one a devout Catholic.
I don’t think I’m quite willing to do it yet. I’d have to call poe’s law on ray comfort before I did ben stein, and neither of them seem fake, just a tad insane.
