Have you noticed that this blog is dedicated to offending creationists? There are more creationists than there are either gender, or races of people. If roughly 10% of society is irreligious, that’s 660 million out of 6.6 billion. I’m offending 6 billion people with this blog.

It’s claimed, to varying degrees, that 40% of population would be men and 60% is women. Offending 90% of the world gets me one comment every now and then but I make some off comments regarding women and suddenly that 60% decides to take notice?

If you think this post was sexist, you need to step back and breathe a bit. I don’t care who I offend, honestly. I could not care less. I won’t offend anyone that doesn’t deserve it, and I was making comments towards Bill Donohue, not towards women as a whole.

Stop being offended by everything, because some of us (me), don’t really care who we offend and how. I say what’s on my mind. End of fucking story.

The fact that members of a subjugated/discriminated group might enjoy pop culture produced by the members of the dominant group and ultimately reflecting their worldview doesn’t necessarily imply their full support of the racist/sexist stereotypes in said pop culture product. In fact, it might have something more to do with the fact that the dominant group produces almost all the pop culture available for consumption, so members of the subjugated group have just learned to suck it up and deal with it. In a less abstract sense: I’m sure you could find some black people who enjoyed Gone With the Wind when it first came out. That sure as hell doesn’t mean that Mamie isn’t a virulently racist caricature.

Fast forward to the present day. Women are forced to put up with a whole lot of sexism so ingrained in our public discourse that plenty of privileged men like yourself don’t notice it at all. The issue with your referencing Donohue being on his period isn’t that periods are a biological reality. The issue is that the meme associated with periods in modern american pop culture is one of complete irrationality, inextricably linked to a fundamental defining feature of womanhood. It’s just another way of saying Donohue is “off his shit, just like a woman on the rag.” This is a sexist statement. The fact that you can defend yourself in this manner only reflects the fact that you’ve reflexively adopted this bit of sexism in your discourse and are privileged enough to not have to worry about it.

Yeah, and it’s a common pop-culture theme that black men are shiftless and violent. Pop culture comes from the dominant culture. The dominant culture is not terribly inclined to correct its racism and sexism. You really want to sink to that standard?

Plenty of people use phrases/propagate memes that are sexist and racist without being sexists or racists. I’d say the defining difference is the ability to take a step back, look at what you said and how you presented it, and make an honest assessment of the underlying cultural meaning you were exploiting.

Ladies, I’m one of the nicest guys you could meet, but I am brutally honest. I think the blunt force of my message would have been lost in a haze had I assumed he was entering the worst part of andropause, which most people don’t know about anyway.

Going by this sample, then — and assuming that watercat is, in fact, female — and not, for that matter, pretending to agree with your argument only to more effectively diss you — you’ve actually only lost approximately 25%* of your audience.
