The politicians hate the Grand Theft Auto series, and any violent videogame. However, I stated that politicians dislike them because both sides have their spots where a nut says a game has just gotten someone (or multiple parties) killed.
Beyond having a funny storyline with plenty of in-jokes that are rather typical of the over-the-top GTA series, this one takes politics and steps it up a notch. I mean, I thought that other games of the same series (notably San Andreas) did a good job of making fun of things, but this one is wowtastic in that aspect.
But this isn’t a blog for random ramblings on a cool videogame, so I’ll get to our main point shortly.
The GTA series is notoriously left-leaning in content, and very right-leaning in delivery. An example of this is the promotion of the second amendment (in online modes, occasionally it’ll say “2nd amendmented” when you kill someone with a weapon), while at the same time making it so over the top that you know it’s sort of an anti-gun statement in itself.
My politics aren’t really important, but I never cease to find it interesting.
In fact, to our main point, in Broker I found something curious on the side of a wall.
Expelled sucks!!!
GTA IV’s development was extended from September to early April. During that time, the controversial film Expelled has become prominent in the disinformation, IDiot, bunker, etc. crowd. Of course, if you’re here, you’ll know that.
Anyway, did the developers do this on purpose? Did they purposely allude to a bad creationist film and be overwhelmingly honest about it? Or is this just some in joke amongst Rockstar staff?
Aside from the ‘Expelled’ reference, there’s a lot to be enjoyed about this game. It’s got a good soundtrack, plenty of ironic takes on both conservatism and liberalism, as well as a fulfilling storyline full of corruption, greed, destruction, and world dominance. I’m sure the guys who made Expelled are in there somewhere, dealing in deceit, greed, corruption, destruction, and world dominance. Ah well, we may never know…
But yeah, that’s where I’ve been for the time being. I’ll be back to my normal habits in a bit, but until then it looks like some interesting things are coming my way, including a possible blog move!
Until next time, keep slaughtering plenty of innocent people on the streets of Liberty City and watch the many sister-bills of Academic Freedom (which was slaughtered in Florida, by the way) in many states for future development. This is our future, you know…
