Expelled. It’s been Exposed.
OK, sort of.
Expelled Exposed has the aim to (what else?) expose the lies and propaganda in Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. Now, even though the pro-neo-creationism slurs on evolution are the biggest focal point, I’d like to point out that it’s more important to expose their general nonsense: not allowing scientists to see the film, not allowing critics to… erm, criticize it… You know, everything that’s been going wrong lately.
My purpose for doing this is actually a response to personal hero and general awesome dude PZ Myers, who I’ve supported countless times in the past, both here and elsewhere. He says I have a job to do, and this post is doing just that.
I support Expelled Exposed, as should any normal, logical person. Wait, fuck that… No, anyone should support Expelled Exposed — because everyone should know that it’s baseless propaganda. Even creationists should see beyond this cloud of lies. Everyone knows that Christians don’t have the best track record with these things. I’ll not blame Christianity for all the genocides it has caused, but likewise they should respect the lack of faith enough to not blame my kind for Mao, Stalin, and Hitler. So just because I don’t believe in god, I’m going to start mass genocides and be bloodthirsty? Yeah, no. Atheists are generally nice and gentle people.
Beyond that, we’re fairly anti-evolution in practice. What does this mean?
Caring for the weak, keeping the old and frail alive, working in groups when bad things happen, not being afraid to give ourselves for someone we don’t know, et cetera, all these things are the opposite of evolution. Evolution posits that the weak die, the old and frail are killed, every man for himself during bad times, and killing others as it’s seen fit, and that’s just in nature.
At this point, we have enough intelligence to direct our own evolution. By way of controlled conditions, health care, medicine, etc. The weakest links (mentally and physically handicapped) don’t die. It’s true — in nature, the weakest links, mental or physical disorders are often the first to go because they’re not adapted to survive. Yet I know these are people and they deserve as much respect as anyone else.
Nature is no longer our guideline for what happens. Now we control our fate. Animals, on the other hand, are still subject to evolution by natural selection. Nature naturally selects those best fit (i.e. no mental, physical disorders) to survive and breed. We’ve long since broken this long running natural tradition by caring for those same types of people — and animals — and doing as best we can to let — and help — them live normal lives.
Hitler wasn’t an “evolutionist” (such a thing doesn’t exist anyway), he wasn’t an atheist. He was someone who believed in the prospect of divine right as applied to himself and others. He believed that Germans were a pure race who had the divine right of life, and no one else did. He was simply seeking what he believed to be a perfect race (in keeping with said divine right), and he did it by murdering millions of innocent people. He’s a dirtbag, yes, but what he had done had and has no bearing on evolution now or ever.
Expelled has been exposed pretty well here, but still, go to the link at the top of the page. It’s great.
